Rime ice along the rooflines,
the catch of cold in the throat--I love the sensations of winter.
Unlike autumn’s sanguine reds and creamy yellows,
the richness of winter is a pale offering to the sky:
wan clouds, frozen puddles beside muddy footpaths,
and humped snow banks spotted with grime.
Today I saw a new winter treat: a snow seal.

Ah, the elusive snow seal of the West. Great photographs. Great lines: frozen puddles beside muddy footpaths, and humped snow banks spotted with grime.
